Our Mission

Protect

Our mission is to eradicate childhood sexual abuse.

Our vision is to train 1 million adults so that protecting children becomes the top priority in our families, in our communities, and in our world.

What is the next step you will take to keep kids safe from sexual abuse?

When child sexual abuse is suspected or discovered, and adults react skilfully, children can receive the professional care that they need.

We must learn how to intervene to protect children so that they can experience healthy relationships, restored resilience, and greater emotional capacity so that children can learn and grow to their full potential.

It’s Time to Act

Let’s Work Together

Apply for a Prevention Strategy Review and we will help you:

  1. Identify and document practices you already have in place that keeps kids safe.

  2. Spot the gaps that could put children at risk of sexual abuse in your organization.

  3. Plan the next steps that your organization can take to continue keeping kids safe from sexual abuse.

Organizations that complete a Prevention Strategy Review with Priority Kids come away with a personalized ‘Next Steps’ plan. You can implement your plan on your own, or we can work together to strengthen your prevention strategy.

Results

Collaboration. Confidence. Empowerment. Hope.

When people work together to prepare and review a prevention strategy that focuses on the protection of children, the results are amazing.

Kids are better protected.

Evaluations and studies have consistently shown that when adults are trained, they are more likely to intervene to protect a child.

When adults intervene, more children receive the support they need to recover and thrive.

But the surprise outcomes are the organizational and interpersonal relationship improvements.

ACES

Groundbreaking and thorough research has shown the correlation between adverse childhood experiences (ACES) and poor outcomes in life.

ACES are linked to chronic health problems, mental illness, and substance use problems in adulthood.

When youth-serving organizations implement Best Practices to keep kids safe from sexual abuse, we dramatically improve the life outcomes for children.

Choose to Keep Kids Safe

At Priority Kids, we believe that protecting children from sexual abuse is the most important step that adults can take to overcome barriers to health and wellness.

That’s how many children experience sexual violence before they turn 18. That’s a lot of kids.

When children are sexually abused, they are at increased risk of exposure to other adverse experiences. By protecting children from sexual abuse, we are helping to prevent suicide, mental health challenges, physical health problems, poverty and homelessness.

Keeping kids safe from sexual abuse is essential.

I found this very informative and gave me the confidence to be able to speak up when in a situation where sexual abuse was present.

Harm Reduction

Children are at tremendous risk of sexual abuse. It occurs in every community, every race and in all economic classes.

All children are vulnerable to this harm, and they are even more vulnerable when they are being cared for by adults who do not acknowledge or understand the risk.

Adults have the capacity to reduce the risk that children face. This is a responsibility and an opportunity.

I now feel comfortable recognizing & reporting these issues and I did not before. Working as a camp leader I think this is so important, so I am grateful for the information.

Building Resilience

At Priority Kids we see it all the time. When staff and volunteers begin their work with us, they are uncertain. Sometimes concerned.

Working with us, people immediately begin to feel a sense of safety. Our confidence and experience with the topic, and the evidence-informed strategies we promote, help diminish feelings of overwhelm or confusion.

And as the topic becomes demystified, and the actions we can take become clear, a new space is created.

A space that has room for envisioning a different kind of community.

A space that feels hopeful. Because people are empowered. And they become confident that their actions will make a difference.

And these feelings of competence, hope, and success are the foundation for resilient communities.

These feelings are the bonus benefits of making child sexual abuse prevention your top priority.

Get Involved

When organizations commit to protecting children from sexual abuse they are given an opportunity to collaborate and succeed.

Keeping kids safe means defining boundaries and defending those boundaries. When we do this for children, we begin to do it for ourselves.

Keeping kids safe means taking the time to listen to what children are saying because they may have something important to share. When we do this for children, we begin to do it in our adult relationships.

Keeping kids safe means that situations and interactions are evaluated in a different way. When we do this for children, we begin to do it for ourselves.

When we shift our focus to keeping kids safe from sexual abuse, it influences our culture. Strong organizations will feel stronger, and organizations that are struggling will find a strong foundation in this purpose.
